Mariano joined Santander Innoventures from McKinsey & Co., where he was an Associate Principal in the Corporate and Investment Banking and Global Risk Management practice, based in New York. Here, he’s spent six years advising global banks, asset managers and private equity firms across North America, Europe and Latin America on multiple strategic topics.
Mariano brings a good combination of investment experience, together with a strong technology underpinning, deep consulting experience and good knowledge of Santander Group.
Prior to joining McKinsey, Mariano spent three years at Bridgewater Associates, in Connecticut, US, and was an equities and equity derivatives trader for a private financial firm in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Mariano holds a BA in Computer Science and Philosophy from New York University, and conducted doctoral studies in Artificial Intelligence at Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya, focusing on complex networks, and specifically on syndication patterns in venture capital networks in the US.
Richard joined Santander in 2010 as Head of Origination for Global Structuring within the Global Banking and Markets division contributing new ideas to the bank and its wholesale clients.
Prior to joining Santander Richard worked in investment banking for 17 years devising innovative transactions in structuring and corporate finance roles at major institutions including Merrill Lynch and Lehman Brothers.
Richard holds a BA in Philosophy and Linguistics and trained as a chartered accountant with Price Waterhouse.
Manuel is a Partner at Santander InnoVentures. Prior to joining Santander, Manuel spent nearly a decade at BBVA.
He was the founding member of BBVA Ventures (BBVA’s venturing arm) in late 2010 based in San Francisco, with focus on a variety of verticals (lending, new platforms, selected customer segments such as Financial Inclusion, Private Banking, etc.) and also oversaw activities in Latin America and Europe.
Prior to that, Manuel occupied positions in BBVA as part of the Corporate Development (M&A in Emerging Markets) and Innovation teams. Manuel Silva holds a BA in Business Administration from CUNEF (Madrid), an MSc in Political Sciences and MPhil in Development Economics from Sciences Po (Paris), and pursued PhD-level research on Chinese economy in Hong Kong and China.
