FinTech50 2017 cos raise $616M since 1 June
European FinTechs listed on The FinTech50 in 2017 have raised a total of $616m since 1 June this year.
The grand total includes significant funding rounds for fast-growing banking alternative Revolut ($66m), cyber security heavyweight Darktrace ($75m) and Hot Ten listed 10X Banking ($46,). Swedish e-commerce giant Klarna secured $225m private equity from Permira, in exchange for a 10% stake, as well as undisclosed rounds from Brightfolk and Visa.
With a median deal value of $16m (across seed, early and later stage) this year's listed companies slightly outperformed the European Q2 median VC (later stage) deal size of £15.9m.
Payments was the most funded area, followed by digital banking and security. The June total excludes debt financing secured by IZettle, LendInvest and Atom Bank, and an undisclosed strategic investment by Intesa Sanpaolo in Iwoca
The full year (2017) total of disclosed investment for FinTech50, Hall of Fame and Hot Ten 2017 companies is $956m. Rounds raised before the list launched in June include Atom Bank ($83m) Funding Circle ($100m) and CurrencyCloud ($20m).
